To wash your hair every day or not…this is the question??

If you have been around for a while then you know that I do NOT wash my hair everyday; I used to but not anymore. I generally wash my hair every FOUR days (Wednesdays and Saturdays to be exact).

Why do this?

There are several convincing arguments to giving this a try if your interested. Let me be clear, I’m not saying you should or that you have to but just in case you want to here ya go…

I know this goes against conventional wisdom because depending on our hair type our hair can get dirty and our first instinct is too wash it. However washing too much can…

  • strip your hair of its natural conditioning agents that our scalp is designed to provide. It can also force those sebum glands to over produce oil eventually causing a build up and oily hair.
  • it can cause your scalp’s natural PH balance to be thrown off inviting bad bacteria and fungi to take over causing inflammation
  • cause breakage because washing too often will dry your hair out causing too much stress on each strand wearing them down to the point of breaking.
  • be the cause of lifeless hair. Maybe no matter what you do your hair looks dead and dull.

What if you have greasy hair?

I mean this is a legit problem and one of the main reasons that we wash daily. We wash it because it’s oily and we want clean fresh hair. However, the more we wash the more our scalp produces even more oil to replace what has been washed away. Then we are back to having to wash it again. It’s a cycle.

Dry hair girls, we really do have it easier in this situation. We are naturally just less oily because I mean, we have dry skin, and our pores produce less sebum, or oil. It is REALLY important for us to NOT wash everyday because our hair will become dry and damaged quickly.

Good news is that you can train your hair, not matter your hair type oily or dry, to produce less oil! Now it might not be easy but it can be done. Your hair type might not be a every 4 day kind of hair but more like an every other day type of hair.

The first step is to just try extending your hair washing and see how that works. The more you do it the easier it will become and I’m going to be honest…it will free up you life like you can’t even imagine!!

Also…dry shampoo is about to become your best friend. I LOVE LOVE dry shampoo. It is my very best friend and we never break up. I use it religiously and it is the main reason why I can go four days between washes. I have written several posts on my favorite dry shampoos and I will link several of them at the bottom of this post.

However, dry shampoo isn’t the ONLY thing you need…

Renpure Originals Coconut Water Mist

This product will be vital to your new routine or an important part of your existing routine. Regardless of if you are an everyday washer or not this is a great product.

This is to your dry ends what dry shampoo is to oily roots.

It will keep your ends smooth with no frizz and helps those pesky split ends from being so noticeable .

I have used several of these conditioning sprays and this one is a favorite of mine.

Why? it’s so lightweight that anyone could use it. Even though it is lightweight it also packs a punch and keeps your locks conditioned.

According to the bottle…

“Coconut water penetrates the hair fiber to hydrate and repair, while also helping to protect against heated styling tools and chemical treatments”

That’s a lot for one product to promise, but even better it lives up to it. All the while not being too heavy. Many times when you see coconut in a product that might be too much for hair that tends to be oily. This product doesn’t do that. I was shocked by its lightweight feel from the first time I used it.

No matter what kind of hair you have everyone can have dry ends from time to time. Some are worse than others, of course, but we all have them. Every girl needs to have a product in their drawer that can be used to help hydrate their ends. If you don’t have one I would absolutely recommend this one.
